How to Choose an AI Trip Planner in 2026 — 7 Things That Actually Matter

18 October 2026 · 2 min read · Santorini, Greece

Not all AI trip planners are equal. Here are seven things to check — budget accuracy, real places, day-by-day timing, easy changes and more — before you trust one with your holiday.

AI trip planners can turn "a week somewhere sunny in May" into a full itinerary in seconds. But a pretty list isn't a plan. Before you trust one with your holiday, check these seven things.

1. Does it respect your budget — and does the maths add up?

The most common failure: a plan that looks great and costs double. A good planner prices every meal, ticket and transfer for your whole group and makes the total actually add up to your budget, not just "budget-friendly" vibes.

2. Are the places real and open?

Check that suggestions are real, named places — not "a cosy café near the old town". Real places can be checked on a map, called and booked.

3. Is it planned hour by hour?

"Top 10 things to do" isn't a plan. Look for a day-by-day schedule with times that make sense: museums in the morning, viewpoints at sunset, dinner near where your day ends.

4. Can you change it easily?

Your plan will change. The best tools let you just say "make day 2 cheaper" or "add a beach day" and only change that part — ideally with undo.

5. Does it know who's travelling?

Two adults, a solo trip or a family with kids need very different plans and prices. Make sure the party size flows through to flights, rooms and meals.

6. Can you actually book?

A plan should link to the real airline, hotel or restaurant — with live prices where possible — so you're not copying names into five other apps.

7. Is your data respected?

Check whether you need an account to try it, whether it shows ads or tracks you, and whether you can delete your data.

FAQ

What is the best AI trip planner?

The best one is the planner that keeps to your budget, uses real bookable places, plans each day by the hour and makes changes easy. Try a short trip first and check the prices yourself.

Are AI travel itineraries accurate?

They're a great starting point, but opening hours and prices change. Always confirm tickets and reservations before you go.

Can an AI trip planner plan by voice?

Some can. With Journey you speak your trip — where, when, who and your budget — and it builds the whole plan.

Just talk.
